Mvomeka'a: The price of a kilogram of Cocoa reaches an all-time high of 2520 Fcfa

The price of a kilogram of cocoa reached an all-time high of 2520 CFA francs per kilogram in Mvomeka'a, in the Dja-et-Lobo Department, South Region.

This took place during a group sales operation initiated by the cocoa farmers of Meyomessala and supervised by the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, at the cocoa grouping centre in Biba Yezoum.

Cocoa farmers mobilised 73 tonnes of quality cocoa, including 67 tonnes of grade I and 6 tonnes of grade II, with the price set at FCFA 2,250.

Three buyers (TELCAR, OFICAM, SBET) were in the running. At the end of the discussions led by the National Coffee and Cocoa Board (NCCB), TELCAR won the contract with an unprecedented offer of FCFA 2,520 per kilogram of cocoa. As a result, cocoa farmers in Meyomesala will receive nearly 184 million FCFA.

For the Trade Minister, this is a question of uneven performance. "Cameroon has chosen the right path. If the FOB price from the ship in Douala this 19 January is 2700 F and the at the farm price is 2520, I think we have reached the ceiling".

He congratulated producers on their massive support for the government's group sales policy and invited them to respect good post-harvest practices for sustainable cocoa production.
